Pond St Tour (audio)

It was a rainy day so on my walk I explored the former sewer treatment plant on Pond St in Franklin.

Here is a brief audio recording while I was in the middle of the property. For additional info on the RFP process you can jump over to FranklinMatters.org.

Check out the Flickr slideshow of the key photos of what I saw on the walk.

Do you want to get a better LinkedIn photo?

William Lam will set up his camera and equipment in one of the rooms at the Job Search Jam Sessions June 14. Attendees who want their photo taken should wear professional attire, and a flash drive or some media that can accept images.

Most importantly, you'll need to bring your positive attitude with a glowing facial expression!

William will take about 4 to 6 photos and allow you to view them on his laptop. The file size will be around 2 meg, rather large but these files can be adjusted to fit LinkedIn and other social media sites if you choose.

For more information and to register for this event visit

Photo weekend

I did get to compose my listing of 5 songs but the write up of the five stories is taking a bit longer than I thought. Took a nice good walk on Saturday to capture some photos around Franklin. Some I have posted right away, others I'll use as needed.

I updated the cover of the Franklin Matters Facebook page with the 'spring' look. No need to see the snow any longer!   http://www.facebook.com/franklinmatters

I took some photos around the old town pool, the site of the new sculpture park

Here are a current set of photos of the new high school

I got to cook on the grill without getting all bundled up!

Reflections

The tree along the edge of the DelCarte Property in Franklin casts its reflection on the water.

Does the reflection mimic the root system?

Something to ponder.

I had a good long run yesterday. Wanted to do at least 5.9 miles and ended up with 6.8. More the merrier especially as it was a sort of photo run. I did pause here and there to take a photo or two, like this one.

No running today, I only do that three days a week now. The schedule works for me. Running keeps me physically healthy. Writing keeps me mentally healthy. Work provides the where with all to allow this all to happen.

How do you approach your day?

What I want for Christmas

What I want for Christmas is this helicopter!

No, I don't really 'want' this. There are so many other things that would be more practical and realistic. This is so far out on the scale of the wish list!

The commercial for REI that they used this device to make can be viewed on Chas's post here

Enjoy!

job search notes: two days behind the photos

On Tuesday, after the rain on Monday, the photo from the top of the stairs at the train station

It is actually from the light pole in the middle of the level between the two sets of stairs. Taking the photo from either actual "top of the stairs" gets the street lights too close to get a good one.

On Wednesday, from inside the train, looking to the Great Blue Hill as we round the corner at Readville and join the main line to run into Boston

Stop, take a look around. What do you see?
What do you make of it?

Refreshed, enlightened with a new insight, put a spring in your step and go forward!

Flickr backup tool, plus

From MAKE Magazine, I find this entry:
A quick search landed me on FlickrEdit, a Java desktop application that uses the Flickr API to manage and export your Flickr content.

FlickrEdit will launch from a URL, after which you'll have to agree to a security dialog and you'll have the option of adding a shortcut to the app on your Desktop. After the application starts, you can associate it with your Flickr account and allow FlickrEdit to access your photos.

Your photo sets will be listed in the FlickrEdit interface. Simply select the ones you want to back up, hit the backup button in the lower right, and select a folder. FlickrEdit will download all of the full-res versions of your photos, broken out into subdirectories for each set.

FlickrEdit can be found here

Photo elements

The MondayMorningMemo from Roy H Williams is a timely refresher on the elements of photography. As I recently acquired a Nikon D40, this was very timely indeed.

Rainbow: Red - fire extinguisher

Amy Palko has a rainbow challenge
underway for those looking to practice their photographer's eye.

I took a series of photos around the house looking for Red. It was a good exercise to find what we did have that fit the bill. Part of the goodness was to also figure out how to depict the object/item in a good way to show the redness.

What red items can you find around your house? your office? your town? where ever you see red?

Niagara Falls Photo Selected

You may recall Dolores and I celebrated our 25th Anniversary on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls last August. One of my photos from that trip has been selected for the online version of the Schmap Guide. Cool!

Thank you!

You can find my photo in the guide. Look for one of Brock's Monument.

Enjoy!

Christmas 2007 - fans

Christmas 2007 - fans, originally uploaded by shersteve.

One of several gifts that were created via WalMart.com or SnapFish, or one of the now many options for using your own photos.

This teddy (he is cute!) wears a simple sweat shirt adorned with the photo of Allison and Carolyn at the Beckham game back in August. Upload photo, pick object, pay with credit card, await delivery.

How simple is that!

Tree ornaments, coffee mugs, stationary, calendars.... the list of items is seemingly endless.

The calendar, in particular, is a gift that the family has created for my father since either 1992 or 1993. Some of us are kicking ourselves that we only made one of those each year. Dad keeps them all. He diligently uses the calendar for his scheduling. The photo archive now is quite extensive.

And so many stories! (background, there are six children each with kids so Jerry has thirteen grandchildren. Each sibling gets two photos in the calendar to fill out the year.) We call these "Papa photos" and there will be times during the year when it would be good to take a "Papa photo". So Dad's calendar has not only photos of his grandchildren but of them in different places, doing different things.... so many stories. Actually I should develop this further for a post on Jerry's Story sometime.

What gift did you receive or what gift did you give that was similarly "hand crafted"?

PodCamp Boston Photos

I did bring my camera but the quality of Steve Garfield's photos is such that it is far better to go to his Flickr group and see those than try to view mine.

Really nice photos, Steve!

We'll need to talk about a new camera choice for me, the next time we meet.

Refrigerator Magnet Challenge

Refrigerator Magnets
Originally uploaded by shersteve.
Back in November, after the new refrigerator came in, we finally got around to putting the magnets back on. Then I mentioned that the girls when they came home for Thanksgiving had re-arranged them.

Who knew some of them had to be in a specific place?

I was supposed to take a new picture but you know, one thing lead to another.... Well anyway, I had the camera ready and finally took a new photo.

A couple have been added since then but this is what they are ordered as now.

If you can identify two new magnets, and two moved magnets, I provide some link love to your blog (assuming you have one).

Directions:

(1) Make a copy of this Flickr photo, (2) use the note feature to reference the two new and two moved magnets. (3) Send the link to your noted picture via email to me.

Entries due by midnight 2/23/07. Family members excluded from this activity. (Hey, it is only fair Allison and Carolyn. But you can help me judge the winners!)

New - magnet was not on the 11/19/06 photo as posted on Steve's 2 Cents.
Moved - magnet is in a difference position compared to the 11/19/06 photo as noted above.

Good Luck!

Note - It is highly likely there will be multiple winners. There will be no differentiation amongst place. If you qualify, you win "link love".
