Columbus Day, time to explore

Knowing that I had not posted an audio recording for a while (actually since June) I was surprised to read a recent email from AudioBoom about changes to the account. The free version I had been using apparently changed on Aug 30 and since I haven't used it since then, and haven't accepted the new terms and conditions, I am in an interesting spot.

The terms and conditions concern me:

What permissions am I giving when I post?

You’re giving us free, non-exclusive, worldwide, transferable permission (including the right to sub-licence that permission) to:

• use, copy, adapt, amend, publish, transmit, display and make the whole or any part of it available in any form, by any media, whether on a commercial or non-commercial basis, including the right to add advertising to that content, provided you have opted into our advertising agreement. You accept that this permission, allows us to make your content available to the rest of the world via the platform and through our embed functionality (or any other distribution method now known or later developed) on third party platforms and services and for the content to be listened to and used in accordance with the functionality of our services and
• edit and take excerpts from it to incorporate into promotional content to promote the platform, third parties that advertise via the platform and/or other providers of content to the platform, in all formats and in all media.

I have no intention of giving them the rights outlined. I have been keeping an ad free platform since the beginning and will continue to do so. I have no problem with paying for a service., However a service that grants ability to "use, copy, adapt, amend, publish, transmit, display and make the whole or any part of it available in any form, by any media, whether on a commercial or non-commercial basis" is not something I will do.

I will resume audio posts but use a different service to do so.

Missed a couple of weeks due to some events and last week in particular due to some technical difficulties with the app. I recorded 3 times and the third time was not the charm. It still failed to upload. So I went back to my trusty recording device to get this one complete.

Remembering Iwo Jima, remembering Jerry

Feb 19 is a special day in US history. It was the day that the Battle of Iwo Jima started in 1945. The flag raising on Mt Suribachi is quite well known. That the battle fought for many days after the flag raising is less so. Jerry landed on Iwo Jima and was among the lucky ones to walk off in March. It may not be a coincidence that Jerry left his world on Feb 19, 2012.

The social media policy is one piece of the rather long disclaimer that is part of the New England Revolution 'membership' package.

This was apparently written 10 years ago. Yes, long before the likes of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Periscope, etc. came into prominence. Now, we need the lawyers to get back to the drawing board to update the language in light of the current situation. Phrase it such that you still get some brand protection and yet I (and others) don't run afoul of the restrictions to take pictures and share accordingly.

and on the second point, about the autocompletion of an equation

Ink Math Assistant and Ink Replay- Using your stylus in OneNote you can now write out equations and then have them solved and then see the steps that were used to get to that answer. Microsoft calls itthinking with ink and I call it pure magic because I was always bad at math. It is currently only available in OneNote for Windows 10.
- Replay inking in Office apps is like a screen recorder for ink based annotations that lets you see the sequence of someone marking up a document. It is currently available in OneNote on Windows 10 but will soon expand to other programs in Office 365 including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
