PodCamp Western MA - student tickets available

"Springfield Technical Community College student Robyn Miller likes to keep busy.
The parent of a 2-year-old child, Miller is pursuing her second degree at STCC while running her own business. What’s more, she’s organizing a major social media conference in Western Massachusetts.
Called PodCamp WesternMass, the event is sold out for the general public, but students can purchase tickets for $19, discounted from $59 thanks to a sponsor of the event.
The 12th annual PodCamp will be held at Valley Venture Mentors, 276 Bridge St., on Feb. 29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The ticket price includes the conference, food, afterparty and panel keynote. To purchase tickets and find more information, visit www.podcampWM.org.
Miller describes PodCamp as an “unconference,” which means the schedule isn’t set until the attendees arrive.
“It’s based on what the particular audience wants to learn,” Miller said. “You walk in. The group gathers, and we make a schedule together. It’s an opportunity to learn about things that are trending now.”

I will be at the Welcome desk for this PodCamp. This event is where I go to get up to date on what's happening in the social media world.

PodCamp WesternMass #10 is a week away...

And in case you've been wondering whether PodCamp is for you, here are 5 Reasons why you should join us:
  1. If you're an absolute beginner (or nearly so), we have sessions for you. It's an unconference for everyone, at every stage of the game.
  2. If you have experience or tips to share, your bringing that to the community is what fuels PodCamp. Help facilitate a session or just schmooze in the hallways. It's all valuable.
  3. Meet others who are on the path with you - running a business, starting a new one, doing community work, or just learning how to get the word out better. We're all in this together!
  4. Hang out and make friends. Seriously! This is an event that has the super-power of attracting the nicest people. We don't know quite why....we just know it's true.
  5. Did we mention the food? Your ticket price includes coffee in the morning, a delicious healthy lunch and happy hour snacks at our 4:30 gathering at Slainte. So, no need to pack a lunch, just grab your laptop, a smart phone, tablet or a pad of paper.
Your ticket price includes:
  • Coffee and tea when you arrive
  • 5 Classroom sessions of your choosing
  • A fabulous, healthy lunch, including gluten-free & dairy-free options
  • Networking happy hour with munchies
If you already bought your ticket, we can't wait to see you! And because sharing is caring, please forward this to a friend or colleague who should be there with you!

PodCamp Western Mass is coming April 1 (audio)

Missed a couple of weeks due to some events and last week in particular due to some technical difficulties with the app. I recorded 3 times and the third time was not the charm. It still failed to upload. So I went back to my trusty recording device to get this one complete.

PodCamp Western Mass is coming April 1. The 9th instance of this event is a great thing to do. This is where I go to learn and share and collaborate.

3 quick things for today

A quick audio for today covering the 'Band of Brewers' bottling, PodCamp WesternMass coming along Apr 2, and my one year anniversary at John Hancock. Also interrupted by a hawk flying from tree to tree in the neighborhood.

1

The current 6 kettles that we took home to drink responsibly

  • Budman's best = A micro brewed Budwiser for those who need a born on date (blank)
  • Honey Snap Lager = A nice light bodied lager. It is crisp and smooth (H)
  • C U Latour Boch = ACBBD A nice chocolaty boch (C)
  • Off Kilter Scotch = Full-bodied & malty, a Scottish style strong ale (O)
  • Big heart IPA = Knock off of Bell's 2 Hearted IPA. Very aromatic & tasty (BH)
  • Emperor stout = Our Imperial style stout. Medium dry character (E)

PodCamp WesternMA #7 - April 25, 2015

If you need a PodCamp 'fix', a day trip out to Holyoke can be the cure. As the longest running New England (not just MA) PodCamp, you get to learn and help carry on the spirit.

PodCamp WesternMA #7 - #pcwm7
PodCamp WesternMA #7

Yes, I am helping to organize this event. You'll see me at the Welcome Desk.

A PodCamp is always a good time!

At PodCamp, everyone's a rock star.
How big of a rock star do YOU want to be?
PodCamp is an un-conference about social media and online networking. It is an open and collaborative event with discussions and interaction from attendees. Anyone with something to contribute or with the desire to learn is welcome and invited to join. Some sessions will be planned ahead of the event, but plenty of spaces will be open for the topics YOU want to discuss and learn.
Tickets are $30 ($10 for students), but all are expected to participate and/or present. You can participate by giving a presentation, demo, or joining into another cooperative event, being on a panel/roundtable, or in other ways helping out on event day.
PodCamp is NOT just about podcasting, but about all social media/networking, and its relevance and usefulness to community, business and otherwise. This PodCamp is all about blogging, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, podcasting, videocasting/YouTube, and any other online community tools.
Western Mass entered the Social Media age with the inaugural PodCamp WesternMass in early 2009. We have a thriving community here of some truly amazing people. This is a chance for Western Mass bloggers, business people, artists, and academics, to get together, make connections, and for everyone to learn how social media can enhance their business, cause or organization.
This is also a chance to celebrate the cornucopia of Western Mass. culture, a joyous blend of urban and rural; business, artistic and academic; near enough to other large metro areas, but small enough to hear yourself think.

Podcamp Anthem - Updated for PCWM6

I have a habit of re-writing lyrics and have realized that to avoid copyright problems one needs to do so with music in the public domain.

I did a version of this for me for PodCamp Boston. I have updated the lyrics for PodCamp WesternMass. The longest running podcamp in New England!

Enjoy!

I come from Franklin with a recorder on my knee
I’m going to PodCamp WesternMass my friends there to see
The web was down the day I left
Wireless was so spotty
Text and Twitter were all I had left
To keep me from going dotty

All you bloggers, don’t you cry for me
I’m a new media maker
With a PowerBook on my knee

I had a dream the other night
Google rank had settled still
I thought I saw my blog somewhere
High upon high, on top of the hill
Technorati, RSS, even Digg
Comments were incoming furious
How did this happen to get so big?
Ah, the "Molly Cyrus" video drew the curious!

All you listeners, don’t you cry for me
I’m a new media maker
With an iPod on my knee

I’ll soon be at PodCamp WesternMass
And then I’ll look around
And when I find Morriss Partee
I’ll fall upon the ground
But if I don’t find Lesley Lambert
This podcaster surely die
And when I’m dead and buried
Bloggers don’t you cry

All you viewers, don’t you cry for me
I’m a new media maker
With a laptop on my knee

Where do I learn how to do what I do here for Franklin Matters? I managed to attend the first PodCamp in 2006 in Boston and have been continuing to learn something new at unconference event since then. At last count, I have helped with the registration desk (or more) for about 30 unconferences.

Blogging 101 (video)

Thanks to Thomas Beach for capturing my presentation at the recent PodCamp Western Mass. The slide I referred to on the screen doesn't always show well on the video but is shown here.

here is the video:

In addition to the slide, I had previously created a series on basic blogging which covered similar ground.

You can find that series here:

Time to get your tickets!

Ticket sales for PodCamp WesternMass end on Monday, March 25th.

Why so early?
Since you as a ticket purchaser are helping to sponsor the event, we want to make it a good one for you. Good as in enough food, drink, snacks during the day. Enough t-shirts for attendees.
To that we need to know the all important planning number, how many are coming to PodCamp?

What will happen at PodCamp?
There will be learning and sharing and networking and all kinds of goodness! Learning about the new technologies mixed with the social part of social media in real life.

How much will it cost?
It is a great bargain. $30 for about 8 hours of learning, that is less than $4 per hour. Where would you pay so little for so much learning? Students get a ticket at half price ($15).

What is the schedule?
The schedule for the day is flexible. The photo here shows the session wall during the 2nd event at Westfield St College. Sessions can be added and changed to meet the needs and answer questions of the attendees. With the event scheduled to start at 9:00 AM, the Welcome desk will be open about 8:30 AM. Get your name tag, have some coffee, etc., propose a session or encourage some one to do a session.
