Running from Lincoln to Froyo

and more as we try to stay cool in the heat. A good long run (5 miles) today. Before the sun got too high and too strong. It was still warm and the humidity is what does me in.

I chose my route to provide me as much shade as the roads would allow. Jefferson Road in Franklin is a nice development. The sidewalk has a nice grassy stretch so I can alternate between the grass and the blacktop sidewalk. Both of which are softer than the concrete sidewalks on King and Washington Sts.

I finally caught up to viewing "Lincoln". As much as the promos touted battle scenes, I was a little surprised that the time period covered in the movie was only a few months early in 1865. Critical months for the 14th amendment to get passed. Clearly politics hasn't changed too much since then. There appear to be as many fools among the Congress now as there was then no matter what side of the aisle you favor.

We also managed to stop by FroyoWorld here in Franklin for the first time. It has already been open a year and we hadn't found our way there before. The concept is simple. Self serve frozen yogurt, you chose the flavors, fill the cup as much as you like and pay by the weight. The Dutch Chocolate was quite good. The NY Style cheese cake is better as a real cheese cake.

The cicadas are in full force outside. It is going to be a warm one. Stay cool where ever you are!

In real life I do not stand this tall. I am tall enough to be asked to reach for things on the top shelf.

I also recall that quote about give me a spot to stand and I will move the world (or something like that).

Finishing my run this morning presented the opportunity to cast my shadow.

Cold running

Yes, it is cold today here in New England. The temp is just above zero F and the wind chill has the effect of the temp below zero. Consider not running today? No, not I. As I tweeted earlier:

@MuchAdoMktg i have great respect for Mother Nature and today renews that! Head into the wind and then when u turn it feels like spring

Were it a blizzard, or tornado, or hurricane - yes, those would stop me. But a little cold? No.

I am back and warm and all is well!

On the early sections of the Mt Monadnock white dot trail, we were under tree cover with the sun behind us. As I was walking (hiking) along, my shadow kept me company.

One way to avoid falling or tripping on a rocky trail is to key an eye on where you are going. Paying attention to what the footing looks like.

Hence looking down frequently, I saw my shadow a lot. And decided to wave!

Winter in New England, the sun is lower on the horizon as it is further away from us. The morning shadows cast can stretch long across the lawn. The shadows pose multiple questions for me. I don't have the answers. Well, I do have 'an' answer. Is it the right one? I don't know. Your answer may be better for you than for someone else. So let's discuss the answers to these questions.

The morning light draws shadows on the wall of the house. The shadows live their own life on the wall. hey gradually move along the wall with the sun and eventually leave the wall behind. On really cloudy days, the shadows, if they do appear, seem weaker.
