Running from Lincoln to Froyo

and more as we try to stay cool in the heat. A good long run (5 miles) today. Before the sun got too high and too strong. It was still warm and the humidity is what does me in.

I chose my route to provide me as much shade as the roads would allow. Jefferson Road in Franklin is a nice development. The sidewalk has a nice grassy stretch so I can alternate between the grass and the blacktop sidewalk. Both of which are softer than the concrete sidewalks on King and Washington Sts.

I finally caught up to viewing "Lincoln". As much as the promos touted battle scenes, I was a little surprised that the time period covered in the movie was only a few months early in 1865. Critical months for the 14th amendment to get passed. Clearly politics hasn't changed too much since then. There appear to be as many fools among the Congress now as there was then no matter what side of the aisle you favor.

We also managed to stop by FroyoWorld here in Franklin for the first time. It has already been open a year and we hadn't found our way there before. The concept is simple. Self serve frozen yogurt, you chose the flavors, fill the cup as much as you like and pay by the weight. The Dutch Chocolate was quite good. The NY Style cheese cake is better as a real cheese cake.

The cicadas are in full force outside. It is going to be a warm one. Stay cool where ever you are!

The Power of a Story

A good story, well told, will engage the audience. The story behind this film is almost as interesting as the story of one John Walker, one the world is more familiar with as "Johnny Walker".

I do like Scotch. I think this story is so good, I will consider asking for Johnny Walker.

This is what I would classify as a "good experience". What do you think?

Lessons from the Princess Bride

During May, the Joyful Jubilant Learning blog theme is learning from the movies. My entry based upon The Princess Bride is now available. You have my permission to click through to read and listen to it.

Yes, there are two postings: (1) the normal text and links (2) an audio file.

As a special treat, Allison joins me on the audio recording.

Golden Compass Wins!

Got to see The Golden Compass Friday night. The characterization is awesome. The scenery close to the imagined world Pullman painted in my mind's eye. The story is close to the book. There were some changes but the major one is leaving out the last three chapters. Arrgh!

I need to see it again. Soon!

Possible Dilbert Movie

One big question is whether a Dilbert movie would be traditional animation, CGI, or live actors. I think live actors is the way to go, with CGI for Dogbert, Catbert, and other talking creatures. That allows you to have star power for the main characters, and it differentiates it from the old animated Dilbert TV show.

The plot I imagine involves an origin of Dogbert as a talking dog. It’s Dilbert’s first day of work, after college, and he causes an accident in the technology lab that releases something into the water supply. The pollutant starts to change regular dogs and cats into talking animals over the course of the movie. So Dogbert would be a regular dog in the beginning, with no glasses, but be walking upright before long. From there on, talking animals would just have jobs like regular people, and none of the human characters would give it much thought.

Tell me you wouldn’t watch that.

If you know any wealthy people who want to invest in a Dilbert movie, e-mail me at "scott adams at aol dot com".

If you can help Scott by letting some one know, please do so. You can read the full posting here.
