Blizzard watch issued for eastern Massachusetts; 12-24 inches possible

Interesting how time and weather work their magic. 45 35 years ago yesterday, the Blizzard of '78 hit New England. In Pawtucket, where I grew up, we got buried with the most snow I had ever seen (and still have). The snow drifts by the side of the house were well over my head. And if you haven't seen me in person, I do stand 6'2" tall.

The fun part about the blizzard was that my father had been fond of teasing us by saying "go play in traffic". We lived on Division St and it was quite busy. We were very careful running across the street to retrieve a baseball that escaped our yard. With the blizzard blanketing the area, the traffic on i95 was buried in snow and we were able to sled down the hill across from APEX and onto i95. I wonder if anyone else will have that opportunity?

Pawsox walk off with a walk

The PawSox got a walk off walk off win on Monday night. Down 3-2 in the 9th, they got a single, made two infield outs then the Louisville pitcher walked a batter and hit a batter to load the bases. The pitcher went on to walk in the tying run and then the winning run. Ryan Lavarnway (who had three strike outs and was hit by a pitch) got the winning RBI by taking the walk on 5 pitches.

Pawtucket on my mind

I will be heading 'home' this morning to run the Irish 5K in Pawtucket, RI. Home as Pawtucket  is where I grew up and lived until after college when I began the journey. The journey that made stops in NJ, IL, NJ (again) and back to New England before settling here in Franklin, MA.

Where will the road go from here?
Who knows. Likely not anytime soon.

The journey that I summarized in Sep 2006 with a guest post on Rosa Say's Talking Story blog.

Who will I reconnect with in Pawtucket?

What will it feel like running those streets again?

Stay tuned!

Beyond the dream

Carolina Correa is recently from Pawtucket, RI (where I grew up) who spent time at the Boys & Girls Club (although it was just the Boys Club in my days) and is now at Assumption College (my alma mater) and doing very well for herself. She was selected to be Youth of the Year!

Way to go, Carolina!

The video can be viewed here

She is promoting education because "without it you can not achieve your dream!"
