Fall windows washing

The weather cooperated. It was sunny and breezy and not too cool to have the windows open. Saturday was designated washing the windows day for the Sherlock house. Ideally, they would be done each year at least but we are struggling to remember the last time we did this.

It was a team effort. I'd take the storm windows off. Put the windows half open up and down. Yes, there is a method to this. I am tall enough to reach from the inside to the outside to wash the outside.



If you can't reach a small step stool can help. Wash the outside top. Slide the inside window up. Was the bottom outside first then the inside. Slide the outside window all the way down.

Wash the outside of the inside window on the top, then the inside top.

Slide the outside window all the way up. Slide the inside window half down and wash the outside then the inside. Unless, I missed one, that should do it.

Your team mate can be cleaning the storm windows. As they are complete, put them back in and move on to the next window.



There is something about a clean window! Makes the world appear much better.

The four of us did 30 windows and 259 panes of glass in a collaborative effort with a break for lunch.

Now my arms need to rest!

You can see my prior attempts to fill in his holes didn't prevent him from returning. The sheet of plastic kelt him away from that section and enticed him to go higher.

The pin wheels went up last weekend. I filled in all the holes and inspection this morning in good light shows no sign of any new holes.

We also haven't heard him but since we're both working, we would only hear him on the weekend. So far so good!

One on the other end of the house seems to be doing the trick there too!

Saturday sunlight pictures

A collection of photos from Saturday afternoon. Dolores was changing over the decorations from Thanksgiving to Christmas. I put the leaf in the big table to get ready for the big gathering for Christmas. I also had a brain storm on how to fix the persistent woodpecker. I got a left over piece of Plexiglas from Aubuchon and covered up the corner board where he has been spending time making the board look more like Swiss cheese. We'll see how that works.

Back inside the house, the afternoon sunlight provided some good photo ops.






And then it was time to vacuum! At least when you vacuum, there is clear proof of a job well done.

Persistent woodpecker

Yes, he is quite persistent. He is leaving the corner trim board of my house looking like Swiss cheese.

The one that came by this afternoon either was a red-bellied sapsucker or a hairy woodpecker. According to the bird guide I looked it, it looked to be the hairy woodpecker but the hole pattern seemed more like the red-bellied sapsucker.

Either way, they love that corner of the house. Apparently they get attracted y the buzzing in the power liens and mistake that for the insects that they think are hiding in the wood.
