Breaking news: frozen earthworms

Wednesday morning brought the discovery of thousands of frozen earthworms. They had risen from their ground homes during the warm spring rain on Tuesday. As evening fell, the rain turned to sleet and ice before turning to snow.

This phenomena appeared in driveways in Franklin and other parts of MA west of the i495 beltway. What the long term effects of this will have on the lawn conditions remains to be seen.

Amaryllis time

I received an amaryllis and a paper white plant for my birthday earlier this month. I have been taking almost a daily photo of the growth and the amaryllis is about to blossom.

rhododendron in the rain

There is a rainy start to the weekend here in Franklin. Not much of matter to me, I have plenty to do inside and I am glad that at least the lawn got cut on Thursday when it was dry.

plan your work and pleasure in and around the weather this weekend and you'll get a lot accomplished!

BTW - if you are looking for some additional reading, my quiet poet entries have been busy as I have discovered some drafts sitting unpublished and managed to get caught up on those. You can find the sherku at http://www.quietpoet.com/

welcome blossom

The flower opens up to attract bees who come for the nectar, pollinate and fly on.

Caught my eye

Walking this morning, the blossoms clinging to the fence caught my eye.

Do you take pictures to remember and share what you find?

Thoughts on the run - 5

Death is all around us. We are born and will die. We don't like to think about it but it will come when least expected.

Colorful morning

I completed filing our taxes on Sunday and will go running this morning in a change of schedule for this week. I ended up working during the night Saturday/Sunday morning on a DR test. Due to the missed sleep, I didn't run as I normally would on Sunday.

The temp has returned to more seasonal cool morning today. The radio announced is it 39 degrees F. A bit cooler than the 50's we started with and then got up into the 70's for much of last week.

The daffodils are up in bloom now and it is good to see some bright colors!

Flowers around the yard

Sunday was just so nice a day, the flowers were in such blooming color, taking a few photos and putting together in a quick video slide show was too good to pass on.

I hope you enjoy!

Many thanks to my brother-in-law John Palardy for the design and planting of the flowers around the yard. Your work is appreciated especially on days like this.

Yardwork break: lilacs about to bloom

Stop and smell the roses is good advice.

I don't have roses (yet) but I do have some lilacs.

Back to the yardwork!

Only a few more good days of bloom left in these blossoms.

They stand tall and glorious with their edges folding over.

Amaryllis series 4/14/09 PM

Dolores took the plant to her Oak St kindergarten room for her friends to witness the blossom. Well, over the weekend, it really did BLOOM!

I stopped by to help them with gluing some wood pieces into various constructions and managed to capture this before leaving.
