Cold calling is hard. Everyone recognizes that. One tip from the local networking event the other night is worth sharing separately. Turn the cold call into a warm call.
How do you do that?
Do some research on the person or company you are calling. Find out something that makes a connection. You grew up in a similar area. You played for a competing high school, or college. There was a recent article on the company or product or service in the news. The key is simply to find something to make a connection with, to help get the conversation going.
